What Really Causes Blogging Failure?

This is one post which ought to have being published on Monday. Ask me what happened? Narrating what happened will of course prolong this post unnecessarily  Let’s move on now and forget the past. 555.

You might probably be wondering why ‘555’. Okay, I discovered something amazing during this week and it was really astonishing and fun. The word ‘Ha’ means ‘5’ in Thai language. So obviously ‘555’ will be ‘Hahaha’. I guess my Thailand brothers will attest to to that!

So you see my point behind my ‘555’? That’s of course my laughter, HAHAHA! Let me quit all of these and move back to business as usual.

The word, blogging has now taken a new different dimension with every Tom, Dick and Harry involved. I’m of course of no exception and I believe you reading this post is as well a blogger. Or am I lying? Because the title of this post bluntly state, what causes blogging failure? You wouldn’t be interested if you weren’t a blogger.

As I said earlier, blogging has of course taken a new dimension with so many unconfirmed results stating that more than 70 plus domains are bought every minute. Yes, I mean every 60 seconds!  Imagine that!

That’s an average of 1 domain per second. Multiply that by 3600 seconds which makes 24 hours and you’ll be amazed at the outcome. So roughly, more than 3ooo blogs are created within a day. Let’s just take it that way.

I guess you aren’t of course here for any sort of mathematical statistics which at the end will make our head to spin but rather, to look what really causes blogging failure?

Please don’t get  me twisted. I’m not in any way trying to impose myself on you as the new ‘Blogging Messiah’ but rather to share what I’ve learnt through this journey of blogging.

But before we do proceed further, let us look what generally is called a blog?

These are generally what some the Methuselahs of  blogging has to say. I call them ‘Methuselahs’ because they have being of course blogging since the days of Adam. Hahaa, for a very long time.

A weblog is a hierarchy of text, images, media objects and data, arranged chronologically, that can be viewed in an HTML browser.’-Dave Winer-Harvard University

‘A frequent, chronological publication of personal thoughts and Web links.’

‘From “Web log.” A blog is basically a journal that is available on the web. The activity of updating a blog is “blogging” and someone who keeps a blog is a “blogger.”

‘A weblog is kind of a continual tour, with a human guide who you get to know. There are many guides to choose from, each develops an audience, and there’s also comraderie and politics between the people who run weblogs, they point to each other, in all kinds of structures, graphs, loops, etc.’

‘A blog is basically a journal that is available on the web. The activity of updating a blog is “blogging” and someone who keeps a blog is a “blogger.” Blogs are typically updated daily using software that allows people with little or no technical background to update and maintain the blog. Postings on a blog are almost always arranged in cronological order with the most recent additions featured most prominantly.’ -matisse.net

‘A blog is a website in which items are posted on a regular basis and displayed in reverse chronological order. The term blog is a shortened form of weblog or web log. Authoring a blog, maintaining a blog or adding an article to an existing blog is called “blogging”. Individual articles on a blog are called “blog posts,” “posts” or “entries”. A person who posts these entries is called a “blogger”. A blog comprises text, hypertext, images, and links (to other web pages and to video, audio and other files). Blogs use a conversational style of documentation. Often blogs focus on a particular “area of interest”, such as Washington, D.C.’s political goings-on. Some blogs discuss personal experiences.’ -Wikipedia

Confused? That’s what Darren of problogger.net wants to know.  Don’t be – its really quite simple. To put it as simply as possible – a blog is a type of website that is usually arranged in chronological order from the most recent ‘post’ (or entry) at the top of the main page to the older entries towards the bottom.- Darren Rowse of problogger.net

So if all, all that seemed to a blog is about the expression of one’s own feeling, then what causes blogging failure. Many people have their own reasons as to what causes blogging failure. Spamming from poor design of one’s blog to all sorts of reasons.

Yes, having a poor design can cause blogging failure and there is no doubt about that. Please bear with me, I’m not in anyway trying to claim Mr.All Knowing. Hahaha, many are intelligent than me.

So what causes blogging failure according to Emmanuel Kabenlah Cudjoe

To me, what causes blogging failure is that moment when you feel you’re not good enough. When you feel your writing sucks and that every other person is better than you. The difference between a ‘pro’ blogger and a ‘failed’ blogger is simple, probloggers hit the ‘publish’  button regardless of their feelings whiles failed bloggers are always reluctant.

  1. Hi Emmanuel,

Hahaha…I liked that too what you mentioned about Haha 🙂

Ah…so many definitions about what a blog or blogging is – yes, it has different meaning to different people. But what do blogs fail, or why does a person as a blogger fail is the question addressed here.

I agree with your reason – because they lack self-confidence, they think too much about things, while a problogger doesn’t – they just go ahead.

I’d also add that bloggers fail because they are not consistent, determined, fear failure, refuse to take risks without which you don’t really grow or evolve, don’t connect and reach out with other bloggers, they don’t have a strong social presence, which is a must….ah…I can go on and on, but I won’t or else my comment might just become another mini post 😉

Thanks for sharing. Have a nice week ahead 🙂

    1. Hello Madam Harleena,
Did I just typed in on Madam Harleena. Sorry, it should rather be Homonourable Minister.
Thank you very much for comment and do have a week ahead as well.

  2. Bloggers fail for many reasons. It needs to be all about you and not selling products, over selling, the information that is being provided is useless and no one really wants to read it. I think the biggest thing besides all of your good points is your need to engage your readers

  3. I love the way you write your articles, you break it and crush it down making it easy to chew. So what causes blogging failure according to Gilbert Samuel. To me, what causes it is when you focus more on your pocket and the share instead of blogging itself, Its really a big distraction. You need to be a perfect blogative in order to be a problogger. 555

  4. Good writeup and enjoyed reading your article specifically the last paragraph.

Fear causes blogging faillure and sometimes due to with writer’s block too.

Persistence and confidence would save the bloggers from blogging failure.

    Nice post, keep writing 🙂

  5. I have always said until you can write a post purely on your opinion without the fear of what others will think about you, then you haven’t become a real blogger. One needs courage to be a blogger, you must not follow the crowd, sometimes you have to stand out and it requires courage to do so. When such is lacking then you are already on your way to failure. This is indeed and enjoyable article, i have always enjoyed your writing technique. Keep it coming.

  6. Many things contributes to blog failure and all these can be combated; some of which I know off are’ lack of consistence, commitment, passion, choosing a better niche, determination, and setting and achievable goal.

  7. You are very true – blogging failure is impossible if those are the definition of blogging.

Recently I was reading a post by Ryan where he shares experience of checking analytics and getting panic. Everything was fine after he focused on creating more content and creating more connection.

Once you start producing better content and connect with lot more other people, I’m sure, success starts following you.

    Great reading!

  8. I enjoyed your whole post. You have very well pointed that our inner weakness or felling bad about ourselves are main cause. Thanks. keep posting, nice work.

  9. Well said Emmanuel,
555, Lol, trying to speak in Thailand :). I agree with you that having a poor blog design can ultimately kill a blog because, your design is always the first thing your readers will notice when they arrive at your blog and, is either your design keeps them or, it will scare them away forever.

And yes, having inferiority complex is also another reason why most bloggers fails in their blogging career.

Thanks a lot for sharing this with us and, do have a fabulous weekend.

  10. There are different reasons for each individual however, some of the facts remains same.

As you’ve mentioned, it is important to post high quality genuine content regularly. Also, blog design plays a critical role.

    Thanks Emmanuel.

  11. to prevent failure, i think bloggers should mainly focused on what value we should offer to our readers. the truth is there is always “someone” who is better than us and we should not dwell on that reality. because even freelance writers and bloggers who earns six figures (in dollars) in a year have “someones” who are better than them in different aspects….

i learned it from Oni Balusi, a freelance writer who earn 5000 dollars a month and yet he is only working 8 days every month. he always knew the someone is better than him whether in terms of blogging and freelance writing but he did not focus on that idea. because he focused on marketing his skills. as a result, he earns that figure today 🙂 want to imitate him

    1. Hello Madam Cada,
It’s nice seeing you here again. How is Little Cada?
Thanks a lot for your comment and for the Oni Balusi example.

      1. hello kabenlah. my son is very much active after recovering from acute gastroenteritis. our drinking water is not already safe so i chose to buy distilled water for my son.

  12. Hello Emmanuel,

    Great share.!

Very interesting indeed. thanks for sharing with us and writing :)when you are failed in blogging then you only “THE DOCTOR OF YOUR BLOG” 😛 😉

stay updated and stay rocking 😉 😛

  13. Hi Emmanuel,
Well written and nicely explained bro. There are few aspects like design, consistency, niche and audience which influences the blog success. From my perspective bloggers must put aside fear and concentrate more on delivering content. Bloggers shouldn’t bother about the crowd. Thanks for sharing this post. 🙂

    1. Suresh, I totally do agree with you! Putting aside fear and concentrating on delivering contents should be the key!
Thanks a lot for your comment.

  14. I guess the main reason people quit blogging is because they want to get rich super quick using their blog and when they discover that blogging is not actually the gold mine they thought it to be, they lose all motivation to do so.

    1. Yes, Ambika. Many bloggers do think blogging is a get rich scheme which is of course far from the truth.
      Thanks also for your comment!

  15. Anyone and everyone starts a blog these days with very little knowledge. Such people give up when they see blogging is not as easy as they had thought it to be.

    1. But blogging shouldn’t be done in that way. It should be a learning process with lots of endurance.
Thanks a lot Biswajeet for your comment!

  16. I love this! Bloggers fail because they are not working SMART! They are not taking blogging like a serious BUSINESS 🙂 Too many people are blogging, you just have to STAND OUT!
    Thanks for this beautiful post.

  17. Nice post. 55.
Agree with your point, if one is hesitant in blogging, why should he blog?
Thanks for the point and will learn Thai language 555

  18. I will like to add this as well that;lack of blogging knowledge can bring about failure in blogging as the bible says that; my people perish because they lack knowledge.

    1. 555,my people indeed perish due to lack of knowledge! Thanks a lot Adedotun for the add up again!

  19. Hello Emmanuel,

When you get high hopes on your blog, you are bound to fail. When you do not take blogging as your passion and at the same time your business, you are bound to fail.

people who fail are those people who start without a plan. So i’ll say that the best way to beat failure is to stop thinking about the downs and start pursuing the ups… Remember that what will make you success in life is to always work smarter with a little bit of hard work 🙂

Nice article Emmanuel, do have a wonderful weekend ahead 🙂

  20. Hi Emmanuel,

There are different reasons for everyone. But according to me, the most common reason is Lack of Patience.

  21. Hi Emmanuel,
First of all, thanks for giving a kind of shortcut for laughing-555!
there may be many causes for the failure in blogging.
It can be said to attain its peak when you feel too bored to work for your blog any more.

  22. Blogging is an online business that is depicted on the internet, therefore blogging should be treated well more than offline JOB because they are countless number of online marketerss

  23. Hi Emmanuel, great post again. . yes, those who are feared to express their words won’t survive much in blogging . . . Thanks for sharing. . . 🙂

  24. Just found your site, and I have to say very impressive post. I don’t think that people realize how hard blogging is. It takes a lot more work than just writing a post.

I think you have to be interactive with your readers. Who is going to want to stop by your site and leave a comment or read what you have to say if they can’t hear from you?

  25. Hi Emmanuel,

I think failure like success is relative. You are not a failure until you have stopped blogging. And that happens many times when you give up because you are not getting what you aimed to get from your blog. Instead of giving up you should rather keep your head up to stay afloat knowing that the darkest hour is nearest the dawn! 🙂

    thanks for sharing.

  26. Hi Emmanuel,

There are many reasons for a blogger failing, and it’s often a combination of things.

Many people think it’s just putting a blog up and posting content. As I said in my post, which you commented on, we have to start building relationships with our readers.

We all come from different backgrounds, have different levels of knowledge and different commitments. None of us are exactly the same, yet I feel that some bloggers compare themselves to other, more successful bloggers, and fear getting in the mix for looking daft.

It’s about being confident, knowing your subject and not being afraid to start commenting on other blogs.

It’s when we start visiting other blogs, taking in the information and leaving comments that we start to see any improvement on our own blogs. Simply posting content is not enough, regardless of how good it is.

    Thanks Emmanuel,

    1. Hello Barry,
Your point is very well made. Confidence is the key to everything.

I’m much grateful to see you here. I hope to see you here more often!

  27. Well hello Emmanuel, you hit the nail on the head in the summary to this post and thanks because I have a blog that has begun to fall by the wayside for this very reason.

We give up because we discount the value we have to contribute to the society. Not everyone can be in the spotlight but ask any successful person and if they are pressed they will admit that their success was shaped at least in part by those that remain in the shadows.

Stuck to the top of my monitor is the following “You can change the world – maybe not all at once, but one person, one animal and one good deed at a time. Wake up every morning and pretend like what you do makes a difference. It does”

  28. “555”
